Looking for vendor of Ulin Shay castings

Post by WestSide Lumber » Fri Aug 05, 2022 3:29 pm

Years ago I started a Shay based off the castings from Rich Ulin. I am looking to get the project going again, but it appears since his passing the castings have been passed to several people. From what I can tell Accucraft is the current supplier. I did reach out to them via email and have yet to get a response. I also see their website has no mention of the castings. Curious if anyone knows a current source for the Shay castings.

Accucraft has the patterns, bought them from Alco West. I don’t think anyone has actually poured castings from those patterns since Richard sold them though, and I’ve not heard a timeline for when Accucraft will start producing them either

I have a funny feeling that with the low demand Accucraft may not make the castings available again, but that is just suspicion on my part. I should still have all the drawings, maybe I'll take a swing at having some parts cast. At one time I had the drawings completed in Solidworks.

Thank you Harlock. Just in case anyone is interested and comes across this thread, I spoke with Dave today and the Ulin castings will be released at a later date. There are some other projects he is working on 1st.
