Golden Gate Live Steamers in Days Gone By !!

Post by keyrouteken »

Hi Everybody--
Next year is 2016-- a special year for GGLS ... They will be "EIGHTY" years old !
It's not every day that a Live Steam club can claim that much longevity. Let's take a brief look back at the earliest beginnings ...

Will try and let the photo captions tell the story ...

CP4449 Yes we are working on another huge celebration for our 80th anniversary . I will post this after our upcoming meeting this coming Sunday. My Wife Sandy Morris will be taking care of all the registration forms and everything else as she did for our 75th meet. Keep watching Chaski. We will create a new post for it. Bob........

Bob- I thought you and Sandy would let someone else Chair the party this time--give you guys a rest. Is that FOOD Caterer who joined the club going to provide the tidbits again ? That Dinner was out of this world !! Can you believe it everybody ? A Live Steam club that is EIGHTY years old ??
Has come a long way since the DUES was only TEN CENTS a month, huh ?

While taking my 0-4-0T into the foothills of the Sierras in search of a new whistle, an old member spotted us and came up to say, "Hi." During our conversation, he mentioned he had an old VHS tape of the early years of GGLS and its founder, Victor Shattock. Recently I acquired the tape and here it is in four pieces (sorry for the ads, I'm figuring that the music has triggered them):

Hello My Friends
Thank you Ken for the cool historical photos. Vic was a very talented fellow and built some beautiful locomotives with simple tools. I wish I could have known him.
