Double Vertical Check Valve
Double Vertical Check Valve
I need to build a double vertical check valve for an engine I'm building. I have drawings of the Sellers version. There were several makers, Nathan, Hancock, Edna, and a couple others. I am having a rather difficult time imagining how to make the core for the body casting, or how to build up the valve from the solid, although I understand how it works.
I'm wondering if anyone has built one of these and has any advice? The only one I've seen on a model is on Tom Millers K36. Anyone else? I'm working in a little less than 2 1/2" scale, 7 1/2" gauge. This is for a 2-6-2+2-6-2 freelance Garratt with a lot of advice from the NGG16 plans set and photos.

Re: Double Vertical Check Valve
I assume this is two inlets, one outlet?
are you wanting to use balls or poppet valves?

Too many things going on to bother listing them.
Re: Double Vertical Check Valve
Yes, double inlet and poppet valves. In addition these things have a shutoff valve for each inlet. There is one outlet.

Re: Double Vertical Check Valve
do you want something 'prototype realistic' or something functional?

Re: Double Vertical Check Valve
I have been looking for the plans for one in 3/4" scale. I see them on some of the small engines but have not found the plans yet.

If you want to build an exact replica miniature part, then Nathan is the brand to build, because its the brand that the blueprints are available for.
Re: Double Vertical Check Valve
Good question because I'm not building a model of any prototype. I thought it would be more realistic to have one that is like some prototype. I don't care of the insides are prototypical. I am going to use it as a boiler feed check valve for two injectors, however.Bill Shields wrote:do you want something 'prototype realistic' or something functional?

Wayne, I think you might have to scale the plans yourself. I haven't found any plans except in a full size version. My plans are for the Sellers unit.Wayne Davis wrote:I have been looking for the plans for one in 3/4" scale. I see them on some of the small engines but have not found the plans yet.

I'd like to see the plans if I knew where to find them. So far I haven't come up with plans for a Nathan. However, Nathans were not used on Garratts. I have plans for the Sellers version.Loco112 wrote:If you want to build an exact replica miniature part, then Nathan is the brand to build, because its the brand that the blueprints are available for.

Re: Double Vertical Check Valve
If you are going to use it as discharge check for an injector, you need to be careful about shut-off vales, which cause pressure drop.
thinking that a push rod down on each ball to close it off if needed would probably be best, something like the Hancock sold by SuperScale

Re: Double Vertical Check Valve
That is a side double vertical check. I need the top vertical check. Sorry I made the assumption that everyone knew what a double vertical check valve on a Garratt or K36, etc., looked like.
