Live Steam Big Boy :)

Post by TrainFanKevin »

I found one of these on ebay and have been fascinated by it. I have never seen anything quite like it.

I wish I could afford to bid on it..

Anyhow, I am not new to Live Steam. I have owned an HJ Coventry President Class. I only had it for display though. Never ran it. It was not complete. I dabble mostly in HO and O Japanese brass models though...

So what do you guys think about this big boy? :)

I think those were commercially made for "G" scale track by a major manufacturer of ready to run garden scale steamers.

The locomotive appears to be scratch built, at least to my eyes. And it's pictured sitting on O gauge track.
Wish the seller had more info on the engine's history.

Indeed it is O gauge scratch built. :) It's really nice! :D Especially that front end... Wonder how old it is. Could be 50s or earlier.

I believe this was built by Roll Neff. The cylinder drain cock arrangement is exactly as he described in this article:

Roll built over 50 live steam locomotives in O scale.

Wow. The bids were (roughly):
$3,500
$4,000
$15,000
$15,100 (actually higher, but the increments were $100, so the winner gets it with $100 over the second highest bid).
