Places or people to visit in Germany in February

Post by PeterCraymer »

I am traveling to Germany in the 2nd week of Feb. 4th-9th for work. I will be in Kleinostheim/Hanau/Frankfurt area. I will have training all day long, but should have most evenings free. Is there any places or people with whom I can visit (full size, Live Steam, Stationary etc.) with during that time period. Because of flights and time difference, I will be there on Sunday the 4th sometime, but must leave Friday afternoon. Any help here will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Peter

If you can manage the distance, the museum in Sinsheim is well worth the trip.

Is isn't strictly steam, but there is a lot of steam there - and it is INDOORS, which can be important in February.

If you are any type of a gearhead, it is a no-brainer...
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

Funny, I was going to suggest that very museum. I was there in 2016. It's huge, lots of awesome exhibits, and for a euro or two in a coin slot they have a couple steam locomotives that will "come to life" (via electric motor and simulated sound effects... but still cool to see the wheels, rods, and valve gear in motion).

Teaser pics attached.

There is a large scale RR club in Oberursel located Northwest of Frankfurt, but don't think you'll see trains running this time of year. If you visit the town website, there is some contact info for the club. You might still be able to link up with someone even if you don't get to see any running trains. This is NOT the time of the year to be looking for operating train activities in Northern climates (US or other). Here's the town website...http://www.oberursel.de/en/tourism/recr ... noMobile=1
Hope this helps. Carl B.
