There is a step between the propane/MAPP gas torches and oxy/acetylene. That is an air/acetylene torch, the old Prestolite or a newer Turbo Torch. People often confuse temperature and heat - oxy/acetylene provides high temperatures but is often too concentrated. When silver brazing(what people call silver soldering) what you need is a lot of BTUs, which the air/acetylene torch can provide.
Another point - what people usually call brazing is really bronze welding.

its hard to "build up" with silver solder, as it is very liquid, and flows very easily ....you would be better off to silver a small piece of brass to the area and re machine it
