Why and when did steam locomotives have green cab interiors?

1> so that you can see where there is grease and clean it up (very little grease is green)

2> because it is a SOOTHING / RELAXING color.

3> some female was involved in the color choices

4> color of the primer used elsewhere and inside of cab did not get a 'top coat'.

5> Green, the color of life, renewal, nature, and energy, is associated with meanings of growth, harmony, freshness, safety, fertility, and environment. Green is also traditionally associated with money, finances, banking, ambition, greed, jealousy, and wall street...and RAILROAD BARONS...

choose one from column A and forward to a friend.

If you break the chain you will be forced to suffer a life of looking at green wall paper for the rest of your life.

Perhaps somebody sneezed in the cab?

I have always been curious about that, I always wondered because it carried over to aviation, cockpits were generally painted a light shade of green up until the early 70’s, now they are pretty much all grey.

Same color as a men’s room. Maybe for the same reason?

I've also wondered about the specific shade of green. What I've seen most is a strong Irish green. I remember the insides of the school busses I rode in as a kid were painted a light puke green, which seems like what should have been used.

I had an art teacher in college who referred to it as public schools green. I hesitate to paint anything green to this day and I'm 73.

Wonder this my self until I walked into a restored caboose with that was painted inside that color green and housed inside a large dimly lighted building and was serprised how well that shade of green work in low light . Just my 02 cents on color .

Ah yes, caboose interior green is much like school bus puke green, while cab green is more like stoplight green or shamrock green. I wonder what it all would have looked like if they'd hired an interior designer?
