'soft' silver solder...
'soft' silver solder...
What are you guys using for "soft" silver-bearing solder? Not the hard, hi-temp stuff, but the stuff you'd use to solder water tanks, that sort of thing. The stuff I'm getting at the big box stores is garbage any more, won't flow, etc.

Re: 'soft' silver solder...
To find descent solder now I have to go to a welder's supply store 1-1/2 hour away. Even old fashioned lead/tin solder is gone (thanks to the tree-huggers).
Re: 'soft' silver solder...
The silver bearing solder you want is 95% tin, 5% silver. The hardware store stuff is 95% tin, 5% bismuth, or something like that, and is crap to use.
The commercial names are Harris Sta-Bright, All State 430. Especially for brass or sstl, the liquid acid flux sold with those should be used.
That alloy is very strong, is a color match for sstl, wets out very well. I've used many pounds of the stuff. Love it.
