UP 4-8-4 By Daniel Boone, Sold At Barrett-Jackson

Post by tsph6500 »

One of the engines built by Daniel Boone was sold at auction. Ouuuffff… that paint job! Does anyone know what gauge this is?

That one sells there every year. what did it sell for? I'm not sure it runs, just a display model. sure is ugly.

I think at one time someone was trying to sell it for $1,200,000 ... to which I said "If that sells, my 4-8-4 is for sale the next day at $1,000,000". I figure I could hire the best machinist/modeler in the world to build me a highly detailed replacement 4-8-4 and have lots of money left over! :-)

It did fetch $168,000 in 2008 at a B-J auction… go figure.

I remember when it was featured in Live Steam 20+ years ago and it looked rather cartoonish in the pictures then. It looks like it only sold for $46,200 with no reserve.
