"The Railrodder",
a travelog staring Buster Keaton. His last film. I think. Possibly produced by Canadian National Railroad.
Keaton rides a speeder across Canada, east to west, to advertise all that country has to offer.
Very funny scenes through out.

The Runaway Train with John Voight. Great shots of that F unit going through the freezing snow with ice over the windows.

Bite the Bullet and The Professionals both Written & Directed by Richard Brooks.
Bite the Bullet was filmed on the C&TS in its early days. The C&TS has as much a starring role as Gene Hackman or James Coburn.
The Professionals was filmed with Great Western Sugar #75 on UP's Boulder Branch near Las Vegas.

Both have some excellent lines delivered by some great actors.

Public Enemies with Johnny Depp as some great shots of Milwaukee Road #261 in a couple of different places.

If you watch "Emperor of the North", watch the details like hand signals the Ernest Borgnine gives. Somebody spent time teaching him enough to look he spent some time on the railroad.

I always kinda liked "North west Frontier" AKA Flame Over India. That and Von Ryans Express are the best.

You're right hoppercar, fun thread.

Suspenseful entertaining Danny Glover movie "Switchback" - No quote

Woody Harrelson movie "Trans-Siberian Express" - No quote

Not a "Train" movie but the freight train scene in "My Cousin Vinnie" -
Vinny: Yesterday you told me that freight train hardly ever comes through here at 5:00 A.M. in the morning.
Hotel Clerk: I know. She's supposed to come through at ten after 4:00.

The "Hazards of Helen" silent film series gives a good look at railroading and railroaders at the turn of the century.
