Digital steam locomotive bell?

Post by doublereefed »

Has anybody shared a simple way to hook up a nice sounding digital bell sound for a steam locomotive? 12V, speaker under the tender, push button gives the typical ringing bell sound. I guess there might be an inexpensive sound chip out there with good quality?

Thanks!

I designed one some years back (schematic attached) and it sounded pretty good but I never installed it.

The down-side is that you have to download an audio clip, open it in a Hex editor, and trim out the code to transfer to the ROM, and then program the ROM.

Thanks DianneB. There was a time when I was set up for ROM pogramming, no longer. I found a relatively (?) inexpensive sound card at mylocosound. All I need is the bell. I should be able to put the card and a reasonably sized speaker in a box, hang it under the tender. http://www.mylocosound.com/
