Boiler Water Gauge Installation

Post by timmy wheeler » Sat Jul 27, 2019 12:23 am

I am installing an American Model Engineering Supply water gauge on the boiler of a very small 1.5" scale 0-4-0. The bottom of the gauge assembly has a threaded valve assembly at a right angle to the gauge glass. My question is this....can the gauge assembly be threaded directly into the boiler back head, or does there need to be a fitting between the boiler and the gauge glass assembly. Room is very tight and I would rather not have a fitting between the boiler and the gauge unless it necessary.

My question pertains to the lower boiler connection only, the top connection has a dedicated port off the top of the boiler (not the turret) and will have a dedicated shut off valve.

I tried to attach a picture of the water gauge, but was unsuccessful.

Advise is appreciated, Timmy

Do you have an accommodation for a drain valve at the bottom of the gauge glass? You need to be able to blow down the water glass from time to time.

Hear is a picture of a gauge glass setup I just recently installed. No need for a fitting between the bottom angle valve and the boiler.

Dave - thanks for the photo

Thanks to both of you for taking the time to reply - it is appreciated.
