Oil cans

Post by hoppercar »

Is there such a thing as a good quality made oil squirt can anymore ?...these import junkers I get from, Lowe's, Menards, home Depot, or msc supply aren't worth carrying home. They leak, don't pump.....or you have to pump it 50 times before it finally works......surely someone carries a good quality oil pump can, for lubing around the engine and filling lubricators

You can maybe still get one from the UK

I purchase any old oil can I see at auctions or whatnot

This, while expensive is the best oiler I have ever used. Works sideways, upside down, etc...

I like these and have several. Every once in a while they go on sale for around $11 and I buy a couple:

I got two of these from McMaster for use with my lathe. I use one to dispense cutting oil. The other one has machine oil for keeping the lathe well-lubed. Made in USA and works great.

Go to second hand or antique stores to find good condition old oil cans.

I've had a Reilang #2 for many years, which is now #R003-252, and these oilers are extremely well-made. The only change I would make in it, merely personal preference, would be to make the oil delivery 90° to the bottle, so that when the bottle is held vertical the oil comes out straight ahead. Otherwise, it will last a lifetime.

I get my oil cans at flea markets, garage sales, etc. I don't bother buying new anymore.

At the risk of sounding like a cheapskate, I will absolutely haggle on oil cans. The most I ever paid was $15 for the large oil can that I attached to this post. Most small oil cans like in the other photo I pay $3-$5 apiece. I'll walk away after that.

I think I have 25 of these smaller versions. I enjoy cleaning them up and making them useful again. Can't wait to use them with my engines!

And the cans are so air tight that none of the lube leaks out

Touche. I even edited the photo so it was right side up... Figures.
