Copper Tender
Copper Tender
Have a little engines American and the tender is made with copper not brass.
Does anyone know when the change was made from copper to brass.
I am trying to get a idea of the age of my engine .
Thanks

Re: Copper Tender
I don't think, there was ever any official "CHANGE" of material....it's all.up.to the builder, and what they decide to use.....who knows?...maybe the original builder had access to a lot of sheet copper, which is why it was used ??.....
Re: Copper Tender
Thanks for the reply
I was hoping for a way to date engine but it may be copper was what the builder chose to use .
Thanks

Re: Copper Tender
0.050" is much thicker than the material that I have. I've been kicking around the idea of making a replacement tender for my 1" scale 0-4-0 but I think the 0.020 copper flashing that I have will be too thin even if I add stiffeners. Thanks for the quick reply. John

Re: Copper Tender
.020 would just be a mess to work with....you would never get / keep it where you want it...
