Nelson Reidel
Any idea how to contact Nelson or if his webpages are somewhere else?
I hope they aren’t gone forever.

Re: Nelson Reidel
I made a cross compound air compressor to his design. It ran great on air, steam not so good as of now. I have a couple of ideas to make changes to the steam passages. I have all the pages, including pictures, for the compressor. I met him at Mill Creek in Oct 2014 and was given the privilege of running his Shay double headed with his Heisler. Very nice engines.makinsmoke wrote: ↑Tue Nov 08, 2022 12:22 pm Hi Peter,

Re: Nelson Reidel
Chassis runs on air. All boiler pieces are cut and prepped for welding, with the firebox complete and ready to install when its time comes. As a side trip, I've built a 10' Railroad Supply baggage car with 3 boat type seats and vacuum brakes. And, I just did a mock up of my cab on my 3D printer. Had to divide it into 8 pieces, not counting the roof. Also, my tender frame is welded, Commonwealth trucks are machined as well as the wheel and axle sets. And I am working on the tank design. Now that I'm finally fully retired, I'm getting more done.
Re: Nelson Reidel
I corresponded with Nelson a few years back (2017) when I was looking to build some pumps. He mentioned that he also had some issues with his design of the compound air pumps running reliably, and that if he had to do it over, he would probably make them "simplex". I took his advice and and his drawings (with his knowledge) and modified several items. The most important was making the pumps "simplex" instead of "compound". Also resized them to 1.5 scale (his was 1.6) so they would fit under the skirting of my GS-4 Daylight. Also changed passages, piston sizes and several other things. I put references to Nelson's web site on my website, but as mentioned, they no longer work. I hope he is doing well and healthy.

Dan_M - Those are really nice!
Have you thought about another post specific to the pumps with a link to your site? They are quite a gem to be hidden under a somewhat obscure thread topic.
