Slightly off topic ... Western Wheeled Scraper Dump Cars
Mike:
Thanks for the photos. I'd also like to see more pictures of the dump cars if you would care to do so.
Bruce - thanks for posting the 8-wheeled dump car 601. Great photo!
Thanks!

Re: dump cars
These look like a new variation that I have not seen before. Specifically, the "brace" above the journal/spring area is not something I have seen in any of the patents or in any other pictures. BTW, there was another manufacturer of similar cars that used a brace from the side frame to the center hinge. I have a photo of a string doing a dump, but I don't have permission to post it. There is an on-line web site showing the restoration of one of these cars here: http://4wheelrailroader.tripod.com/id4.htmlmikechoochoo wrote:The frame on the cars is 128 and 1/2 inches long.
the box is 119" X 90 " X 25 and 1/2 high
Wheelbase 50 inches
wheel diameter 19 inches
truck frame (arch bars) 3 X 3/4 inches
I have more dimensions but i would need to draw a plan for them to be understandable.
I'm on dial up here but I could post all my photos on a photo site with my laptop in a week or two if there is interest. (22 photos)

dump cars
Ok here are a link to the one of the pictures, I loaded them in high res so your could get more details, though I know it will mean longer down loads in you are on dialup. You all have permission to use them to build models but if you are writing a book of article please ask for permission to use any of them.
The green ruler in a few of the pictures is marked with one inch stripes.
The first one is a sketch of the frame and some notes.

Mike,
Thanks a lot for the pics.
I graduated HS in Independence, Ia, in 1967 and thought I knew the town pretty well. I don't remember that car body. Where did it set? Of course my interests ran more to the gals and cars, at that time...

To everyone else, I would like to see photos of any cars you build, when ever you get them done.

dump cars in photo
At this weekends "Mid South" meet that was washed out, I see some dump cars preserved in a fenced in structure at that facility.
Take a look at the "group" photo, right in the center, way in the far background;

Here's a pointer to a picture of one of the Oliver Iron mine's WW side dump cars:
http://collections.mnhs.org/visualresou ... Type=Basic
I know that they have 4 or 5 such images but only found one posted electronically.
If this link doesn't work, google Minnesota Historical Society, go to the photo collection and type Oliver Iron. About pg. 4 you find the side dump car. The MHS collection has a lot of good photos of Minnesota locomotives such as the DMIR Yellowstones.

Re: Slightly off topic ... Western Wheeled Scraper Dump Cars
In doing research on a side dump cars I came upon this thread. Have you made any progress on the side cars? I noticed that the link is no longer working for accessing the PDF of Western Wheeled Scraper Co catalog you created. If you would be willing to share any information you have I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Robert
