Joshua Tree Rudy Run & 15" gauge

I stopped by on Saturday for the day, bringing my girlfriend's family with me. The original plan was to spend the weekend there and do some dirt hauling up the mountain division, but I'm still doing some work on the MEG so I decided to let it be and show up with a camera. I did get some throttle time though thanks to some generous loco owners.

The 7 1/2" mountain division is getting quite impressive, with a switchback leading up a steep rocky mountain side. A little Colorado in California. A huge amount of work has gone into this, with lots of fill all hauled by rail, and steel welded trestles made to look like wood.

The 15" gauge division was operating, with Shays present as well as a diesel critter functioning and in progress.

Some highlights. See captions for descriptions.

More 7 1/2" mountain division, and Doug Maywald and myself on his RGS #20.

The 15" gauge is fairly astonishing, with a massive curved rock cut. The track is short but growing and the engine house is now making renewed progress. Ray Cadd and I got some throttle time on the Coffey Shay, which is more or less the club engine.

Thanks for looking!

Yes they bought Gene's American, his lathe and some other rolling stock etc. Gene has cleared out the shop and storage areas from the business that Marty now has, and he is focusing his time on building wooden boat models.

Thanks for posting the pictures of our little gathering. We are glad you and Ray got a chance to pull throttle on JT&S's shay. Hope to catch up with you and Ray at Hillcrest for Reedley Railfest.

Mike ,I do not know what you use to take your photos, but they are just outstanding regards clarity and colour ,I have not seen better ,they are always way ahead of other photos I have seen on this site and a lot better than I seem to be able to take.

Beautiful pictures as usual, Mike. I sure wish I could move back out west. Colorado narrow gauge is my passion. :)
