Wow, I really do hope whoever buys it reports the people who sold it to them. Maybe they should electrify the rails at night?

I recently sold some aluminum like what our rails are made out of (industrial al). You do not get a lot from the scrap guys. On top of that, I had to give my CA license and they wrote down the plate of my car. Hopefully, they will be caught.

Btw I would recommend 1 large German Shepard and one large Doberman to patrol the area....

I worked for the power company up here for years and metal theft is a HUGE problem. Even though it is expensive to paint aluminum we used to paint it just so it didn't look like aluminum. But thieves aren't too bright and are brazen as Hades! Thieves have been electrocuted cutting copper ground wires off of equipment in power station  Unfortunately there are many scrap dealers who have every reason to believe material is stolen but don't contact the police.

I wish them luck in recovering their rail!

Hi Guys,

in every Part of the World the problems are the same.
At this year here in Germany , 5 locomotives was stolen.
3 locomotives are back at the builder, people who has stolen
this locos getting cold feeds. Every magazine, boards and news
reports about that. So the people puts the locos in front of a house
with a letter"call the police". The owner of the house did it, the builder
has very big luck. The other two locos are still not found.

No respect to other peoples stuff. I hate it.

All the best, , Christian

when Hunter Park, Riverside got its facelift a few years ago, i was really glad to see the extensive use of video surveillance throughout the park. supplemented by the club's own use of very visible cameras covering the grounds, i believe it is a very strong deterrent.

Did the Riverside Live Steamers use mainly steel rail this time around?

I am sure the soda machine is meant to be a revenue generator that is low maintenance.

here is a follow-up story by the OC Register.

http://www.ocregister.com/articles/shel ... -mesa.html

unfortunately publishing a dollar amount which if someone puts together this article with the one saying 2000' of track were taken, might give even idiot crooks the idea that track which sells new for under $1/foot even retail might be worth 4-5x that amount in recycle value.

does anyone know just what a scrap dealer might shell out per foot of 1:8 scale Al track? if it is indeed a much much lower figure, perhaps that would be some information worth disseminating.

Kimball - RLS has aluminium rail throughout the railroad with the exception of grade crossings and the crossover.

A one foot long rail scrap I have is weighing in at 5.62 oz.
Riverside Recycling has clean AL scrap at $.40/lb.

This would give a ten foot stick of the rail I have a scrap value of $1.41.

(of course your mileage may vary)
