IMSE Fall Meet

Post by Wayne Davis »

Attached are links to pictures and a video of the Iowa Model Steam Engineers fall meet September 13th.

At the beginning of the video is a work train that had to go out and clean the rail. We had a hydraulic drive engine break down and coat the left rail with oil. Everyone stopped and cleaned the rail by hand, them we sent out the work train to finish off.

Have had that happen before at one of our meets: A hydraulic drive diesel sprung a leak at a fitting, and would spray oil on the right rail of the track. It would only spray it on heavy grades, where it would do the worst damage. Finally found the offending locomotive and they stopped to fix it. We all then wiped down the rails with solvents and rags. Still didn't have very good traction for most of that meet. Once it's gotten on everything and on the car wheels, in the crevices and joints, etc... It's hard to get it out.
