Series 1 Boss head rebuild

Post by MsChrissi » Thu Mar 05, 2020 6:05 pm

Series 1 Boss, need head rebuild manual, pictures, diagrams and a therapist.
Kinda sorta VS J-head except motor is mounted to bottom. Any help appreciated!
Bought it with original electrics, pitched cabinets and went with Mach3, has worked wonderfully for ten years but head is noisy, more than just belts and top rebuild I am afraid.

most likely it is a bushing for the split pulley...they very commonly go bad
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

Thanks Bill, that's what I have heard. I want to get whatever documentation possible to be ready in the future to open this thing up and do a complete service and rebuild. I have heard the quill is a real booger to deal with.

Bill, plenty of stuff on Series 1, 2HP VS J heads, not a single thing on CNC V-Ram heads. Have not even seen a parts list much less any known availability.

I rebuilt mine, without any knowledge of these machines. It was a good project, but nothing was particularly hard other than figuring out what needs to be done. I have a few misc posts here. You just need to be careful of the ballscrew because it will easily unthread and balls will go bouncing away. Mine was a complete mess, but I took my time and have been quite happy with the results.

These are two posts I found with images. Thought I posted a bit more...
