Marty,Thanks. I do have the covers. At the time the pic was taken I was still doing machine mods.
Yep. Still using the 100 step motors. They work just fine, altho I have an upgrade drive already worked
out that will fit within the existing covers. 3 to 1 belt drive.
Pic below shows the permanent setup before I moved to a new home.
If anyone is interested I have a solution to the tricky Z axis nut lubrication problem.

So what's the secret? :-)
I assume your machine has the pressure lubrication system? Unlike the 2000 that had oil cups?
What stepper motors do you plan on using?

My mill was found to have never had the Z nut oiled. Was dry & scored looking.
The manual was unclear about how it was lubed and dis-assembly revealed
the holes that had to match up. Clearly! this needed a mod.
The pics show a Gits cup added to a tapped hole near the top of the V coloumn.
A 1/8" copper tube is loctited from the inside and shaped as the note shows in the pic.
A felt ring is stuffed into the nut top recess and retained by a modified circlip.
Now oiling can be done at anytime in process.
I ditched the original auto-oiler for a manual pull & release unit. More compact.
If/when I ruin the 100 step motors I have 1.8deg/214oz NEMA 23's to do a 1.5/1
timing belt drive in the same space as original.
