foundry equipment question
I picked up an old osborn machine yesterday from Jacksonville Fla, but the problem is I don't quite understand how in the heck that it works and am looking for some ideas on how it may work. It is an osborn machine and it has a model # 442 on the tag. It appears that the table actually rotates backwards and it has a lock to hold the flask in place. It appears that the machine has a mechanism to pick up the flask and roll it over and it also has what appears to be a vibrator on it. I only paid 100 bucks for it so I can't complain about that and I think that once I get the bugs worked out it will be a decent machine. I am thinking that it is a rotalift machine but it is not like your traditional rotalifts. It does not have any way to operate it like a sand squeezer, so I guess you hand ram the molds and then flip them over. I will post some pics later on as I really want to know what the heck it is.

Well, I talked to a friend of mine the other day about the machine that I got and come to find out it is a jolt, roll and draw machine. I thought that the cylinders were bad that raised the table but lo and behold there were 2 locks on the table to keep it from flipping and once I released them the table raised up like it was supposed to. I am planning on using the machine to make molds with a pneumatic rammer and then flip the molds when they are done; in place of a rotalift. It is an old machine but it is very impressive to me still. I can post some pics if everyone would like. These machines were popular back in the 40's and 50's is what my friend told me and basically they went by the wayside. I have some old books with pictures of these machines but never have seen one in person.
