Just finished a repo of a 1930`s Gerstner Leatherette for Tracy, a customer and close friend. He plans to use it at the gun range to stoe all his stuff. It`s a 16" the perfect size for a tote.
Of course all nickel trimmings and a new leather padded handle have been replaced along with the case covering and refelt.
The drawers were filthy. I sprayed with easy off oven cleaner scrubed with a coarse steel wool and rinsed the grime away. Lightly sanded the drawer fronts, bleached to raise the grain and again used a fine steel wool. I used a natural color stain then shellac.
Enjoy...MC

Amazing. Only trouble is, he won't have time to shoot at all. He'll be
fielding questions from all the other marksmen about where he got that
case, and where they can get one!
Lovely work indeed.

Hey Jim,
That`s exactly what happend, I had redone one ( leatherette) for a guy about a year ago, guys name was Carl well, Tracy saw Carl`s at the range and just had to have one. He had buged me for about 8 months to do one for him. He gave up twisting my arm a finally wrote me a check in advance. That got me goen. I had put one on ebay a while back the darn thing sold in a day.
I`ve got a hardware costumer on the eastcoast that goes to the gun shows every year. He`ll unload ten to twenty boxes every time. He gets a premium for them. I haven`t been restoring much like I used to since the hardware sales have been doing so well.
I guess I need to rethink my strategy.
