I had to make some hydraulic quick disconnect fittings as they seem to be no longer available.
2024-T3 aluminum and stainless.
Had them Type 1 anodized. I Love the way that stuff looks!
Lots of fun! Turning, facing, boring, Internal O-ring groove, internal 11/32"-32 thread to a shoulder, external threading, parting, milling, angle boring...
Oops, forgot to put the spring in the photo. Got to wind the spring that goes indide it as well. A new experience!

That looks better than factory parts! It is good to be able to make obsolete or otherwise unavailable parts when you need them. I do that once in a while, although nothing that complicated.

A lot of work in that little piece . Looks excellent . 32 tpi threads look pretty small to me and your anodizer did a very good job . Cool color .
The more I learn , The more I don't know !

I used to make a wave guide for Univac from 2024 T351. It, too, got the same anodizing. It really is a great color, and 2024 is a pleasure to machine.coal miner wrote:your anodizer did a very good job . Cool color .
Nice job, Glenn.

Re: Had to made a few parts
I prefer 2024 over 6061 for sure for machining. I usually keep more of it around in various bar sizes than 6061.
Mainly bacause I prefer the "wood grain" look of Type 1 anodizing when done on 2024. When done on 6061 it does not have the grainy look, just a plain silvery gray.
Thanks for the comments!
