Okadee Cylinder Drains

Post by Erie2936 »

Hello All. I am posting to see if there is any interest in 1.5" scale Okadee cylinder cocks. I have made several sets over the years built up from bar stock, but I have always wanted to improve their appearance. I had made a small batch of prototype castings for my own use last year and am now trying to decide whether or not to make another run. I am no longer going to offer the built up design.

The drain valves are steam operated via a steam signal line from your cab turret. The steam signal line connection on the drain is 1/8 MTP. Steam closes the drain valve.

The drain body measures ø1/2" x 1.5" long. When mounted to the banjo fitting, the drain extends 7/8" down from the locomotive cylinder block. The banjo fitting can be made with 1/8-27 NPT or 1/16-27 NPT threads.

If there is enough interest in this improved design and appearance, the cost will be $330 for a set of (4) post paid in the US. I want to place an order for castings in the next two weeks.

PM me if interested.

Hi Steve,
Okadee and Hancock both produced cylinder drains of this style. Both are featured in the 1930 Locomotive Cyclopedia. I do not have an earlier cyclopedia to check when alternatives to mechanical drains were first introduced.

Hello all, Thank you for the positive responses on these drains, it has been overwhelming and very kind. I have received a few repeat questions, so let me post them here to help everyone else that may be interested.

One set of drains is $330 post paid.

Additional sets are $320 each.

If a thread size is not specified, 1/8 NPT will be supplied.

At the end the 2 week advertisement (3/27) I will contact everyone confirming their order quantity and specifying expected delivery time.

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Brian - Considering that Super Scales lists there cylinder cocks at $390, your price seems well in line. Do you have a set to sell?
I can pick up at McCLoys at the June 18-2 meet.

Hi Pat,
I have already placed the order for castings for the first group that responded and am now busy making the hardware that fit inside them. If there is enough interest, I will do another run this fall.

Brian

Ok - I am expecting an H-10 from Wayne this summer and I wanted to include these on it. If a Kent backs out I'll take a set. Otherwise I'll look for your new order in the fall.
