cutting new slot in weaver mount

Post by jpitz31 »

Hey all

Newbie here,

I have a Hatsan air gun, The welded weaver mount is missing a slot closest to the rear of the receiver

I would like to mill an extra slot. The process appears to be rather straight forward.

I have never mounted a barrel into a vice before, Air Gun barrels have the air chamber and receiver
behind the barrel.

Would a v-block be the best way to mount the receiver or would there be a better way to do so.

Thanks

Joe

If you could provide a close up image of the piece in question, we could give a better answer. But normally, one holds round stock in the vise with one V-block from the side, the vise compressing the stock between the fixed jaw and the V-block. Non-round portions of the stock can complicate holding it. Also, some method of aligning the piece so the cut is made as desired is needed.
