another method of mounting a BXA QCTP on a 9729 3 in 1

Post by John R »

First of all "thank you" to Torch whose post on this subject finally got me to do this. I wish I'd done it ten years ago!

First I bought the CDCO BXA QCTP off of ebay.

When it got here I noticed that the base was an exact fit on top of the mobile jaw on the compound and it also put the post at a correct height for all of the attachments. To me it seemed the easiest way to attach the post to the jaw was to drill and countersink four holes in the base, then drill and tap the mobile jaw, and finally attach the base to the jaw with four 5/16-24 cap screws.

I realize the bit is cocked in the one picture I just threw it in there when I mocked everything up.

I bought that set and it appears to be well made. We will have to get some shorter set screws  The threads fit are good too.

The only thing I would have against the 4 bolt mount is having to remove it in order to use your vise. I often mount a vise in tge cross slide vise in order to get the work closer to the mill quill stroke and removing the 4 screws would be a pain, but I really do like your idea. Better than turning down the center bolt.

Have decided to purchase the same BXA QCTP that you did and install it like you did. Thanks.
