The header says it. I understand that the max uphill grade is
3.69% at mile 10.18, on the track just past Little Falls. But what is the max downhill? Thanks.

I believe it is the 3.69% at Little Falls!
That's the grade that limits how many un-braked cars I can haul at Train Mt.!
Occasionally you see foot furrows in the down track ballast.
Oops...

Re: Max downhill grade at TM?
how long is the grade?
Re: Max downhill grade at TM?
There are a few long grades at TM right ? Like the serpentine ?
Re: Max downhill grade at TM?
Yes. And the long grade to the north: 1.5% (?) for over a mile.
(I've not been to TM for 2 years. Will solve that in July.)
These grades separate the skilled steam engineers from the learning ones!
If you can hook up your valve gear for the hill and stomp your way right up,
then your engine is in good shape, and your water/fuel consumption will be noticeably lower.
My favorite challenges there.
