Fender, I have a 350 watt scooter motor in one of my 1" scale locos. I use this controller:

Handles very well. Has reverse. Cheaper than the scooter site. Easy to wire, you will not use half of it. I just tied those wires aside. I use a 10K linear pot for speed control, on a 36" lead.

Highly recommend it

Thanks, CP, but I’m concerned that a 350 watt motor won’t be big enough for my loco. Also, I’d like to get better range from my two 12-volt batteries, which is why I’m looking at brushless/outrunner motors.
