Hi Leonard,

Put me on the list of those interested in the project. I could probably pour some of the brass or aluminum castings if needed

Best Regards,

I have a copy of the original pholio sheet from the John Maxwell collection (before he passed) of the D&RG 4-4-0 American. I have the frame, journal boxes, eccentrics and axles all done plus cylinders, have drive wheel pattern about 90% done when I ran into foundry problems and stop work on this loco. I have almost all the drawings done or all the info needed to finish them. I started this project about 15 years ago and have not worked on it since, I may drag it out some day would be a pretty engine when done.

I’m sure the foundry problem can be overcome. Where are you located?

If you still have your patterns, then you can send them to Cattail in Pennsylvania and have them cast. If drivers are all that you lack having what you need, I sure as heck wouldn't let that stop me. Put your state or city in your information so that people can have an idea of your whereabouts. Answers to a lot of questions are different depending on where you are.

Also, I hear that Jessie Banning has some detail parts for 2 1/2" scale narrow gauge steamers that would probably work such as dome castings, bell castings, etc...

Jesse Banning also has a Eureka under construction. Last I heard the customer that was having it built has backed away from the project.

The California State Railroad Museum has a good number of Baldwin drawings in their collection relating to the narrow gauge (4-4-0) NPC Sonoma that's in their collection. The museum also has drawings that they made of some of the Sonoma's parts and sub assemblies as part of the locos restoration. Contact the CSRRM for info on those drawings.... it should still be possible to purchase copies made from them.

Two weekends ago I had a good in-person visit with the manager of the California State RR Museum.
We were riding behind the freshly restore (14-year project) SKOOKUM, the surviving 1909 Baldwin 2-4-4-2 Mallet. An Awesome weekend.
It was a testing and troubleshooting weekend.

Back to the subject:
The CSRRM Manager and I discussed their huge collection of historic locomotive drawings, and their availability.
At present, the above suggestion to contact of them is the major way to search for copies of drawings.
The manager is trying to work on ways to get resources more available via internet searches. A time consuming and expensive to do.
But on their list of improvements to make.

Send them an email with your search desires.
