Steve nailed it ! Cost more to make a usuable lathe out of that pile of parts than the cost of one ready to work.

Geee baddog thanks for the invite but Phoenix is a little far from WV. But if I am ever in the area I'll be sure to stop by. :-)

You are welcome any time, particularly if you are going to have fun finishing some of my projects.

I really hope you pull it off, Bob. Put it on Youtube.

In the meantime, you might consider getting a second lathe you can use.

Can I install a Tumbler on this with the shaft sticking out. and do I need to use the transformer. I know I need a Spindle Gear and I found a Back Gear Spindle Step Pulley that I think I can install on the main shaft. I added a link to photo bucket. http://s276.photobucket.com/user/oakdus ... as%20Lathe
I bought this thing for scrape price so I figure I can put some money into it. But I will except any donation of parts you may have lying around for your tax deductions. In liue of donations I am willing to purchase parts :-)

Not to be harsh but from years of fixing up old miss used /abused machine tools three words . Cut your looses . Part out sell it on etc. Buy a complete working lathe. I can see a $1000 dollars worth of parts needed to make a functional lathe there , and then you still need a decent tool post ,drill chuck, live center etc. In the machine desert of Phoenix I have in the last 3/4 months repaired -fixed -cleaned to full operating condition 3 lathes that sold from $1000 to $1650 depending on general condition and accessories. All 12" with QC boxes ,a Logan $1200- a ENCO $1000 well used and a loaded Atlas $1650. And a word of advise insist on a QC box on whatever you may buy.

I appreciate your advice John, but I am going to muddle through with it. I really am wanting to learn how they work and learn how to k=make parts for go-karts.
So what are your thoughts on installing a Tumbler on this with the shaft sticking out. and do I need to use the transformer.
