New bridge open at FLLS

Post by Tim B Guenther »

If you are coming to the Finger Lakes Live Steamers 50th Anniversary in a couple of weeks, the new 7-1/4 inch bridge is now open! I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it rides. Since the brakes are not quite functional yet on my new Shay, I was a little apprehensive about the down grade, but I actually had to open my throttle to keep going down. The grade is about 3/4% on both sides of the bridge. I shot a you Tube video of my ride this morning. https://youtu.be/yg5xCfq22Ss

I took a ride around the FLLS 7-1/4" track this weekend. The trestle project is quite nice!! (Very fun!)

The bridge looks great, I like the red oxide paint "imitation rust".
Assuming by "marshmellow" you mean Styrofoam for the approach grades?

We were luck enough to have road construction grade foam donated for the project. It worked out great.

During the construction of the bridge approaches, I thought it would be a great photo shoot for Woodland Scenics. It looked just like their products but just much larger.
