Material choice for shaft collar

Post by jcfx »

It's like a giant shaft collar, but what it is, is a locking ring for the Maximat v10P lathe chuck backplate.
I want to have the blanks for them laser cut, then machine them to dimension.

The OEM locking collar as Emco called it, is to my best guess cast iron, the laser cutting service only has
A36 steel in hot rolled and hot rolled pickled in the thickness I need ( .50" - .625" ), I've never used this
typ of steel before, the thickness of the collar would be about .50" , wall thickness .4235" ,
would it be suitiable material for this locking collar ?

That will work just fine
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

A36 should be okay. Go with the pickled steel. It’ll be friendly for your cutting tools.
