Frank,

my concern is with an articulated engine. I once talked with Andy Clerici about firing his H8 locomotive. He described a wet ride and advised not running two steam lines to the rear cylinders as the prototype did. He suggested using only one steam line to the rear cylinders and sending the steam supply up the middle of the frame for the front cylinders. The other outside steam line could be a dummy. I believe I will follow Andy's advice plus add super heat. His engine had water dancing on the stacks.

Or run it simple...or is that what you are saying and I am not comprehending?
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

Pretty sure these were not compound locos, so all cylinders would run high-pressure steam.

The way I interpreted the post is that only one line provides steam to both cylinders, cutting the surface area in half and reducing cooling to an acceptable level. If so, sounds like a good idea to me. Like ganging propane tanks to reduce icing, only in reverse.
