Wabash, frisco and Pacific/ Mueum of Transportation

Post by Marty_Knox »

My Grandson (Noah, 8 years old) and I are going to Illinois and Missouri next weekend. We have tickets to ride behind the 401 at the Monticello RR Museum on Saturday. We will be staying in Fenton MO Saturday and Sunday night. I plan on visiting the Museum of Transportation and the WF&P on Sunday. It looks like we can go to the museum in the morning, then go to the WF&P after lunch. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions? Is it possible to do both the same day? Will we able to see the Big Boy?

Its been maybe 15 years since I last stopped in at the MoT and I know they have moved stuff around and also disposed of some stuff over those years. The management has changed in the last few years and word is it was for the better as the bureaucratic controlled misguidance of the museum has supposedly ended. That said the museum is certainly a must see if in the area and the Big Boy is still there as well as the N&W 2156. The WF&P is only about 20 minutes from the museum so won't take long to get there. Let them know who you are and hopefully you will get a tour.
I found out about your monticello visit early last week and let the cmo know look him up when you get there.

Noah and I had a great time at the Museum of Transportation and the WF&P! At the MoT he loved the KidSteam hand crank cars and seeing the Big Boy!
We rode the Chance train and the trolley, and I got to see the Wabash 573, the prototype of the Allen/Harpur Mogul.
Mike Walsh told the WF&P we were coming, and they gave us the grand tour. Thanks to everyone there!
