I am doing research on the Vulcan Duplex locomotive and I found that there is something in the 2000 Jan/Feb about the duplex in the Mail Stop by Al Armitage? I was wondering if anyone has a copy they could scan in for me to see what it says ?
Thank you

I have yet to see a Live Steam model of those Vulcan locomotives. 'Probably just missed those articles...
Having operated full sized articulated steam locomotives and various geared locomotives, I've always been intrigued by the Vulcans.
I suspect generating sufficient steam for those 4 cylinders might have been problematic, and one of the reasons they never seemed to become successful.
Twice the work and maintenance for the same amount of tractive effort...
But possible twice the fun, too.

I would think that maintaining steam-tight flexible joints between the boiler and two sets of cylinders would be a problem. Plus, unlike any of the geared loco designs, the rear truck would be more likely to slip as water and fuel was consumed.
