SRC Model Pro Polyurethane Casting Resin (Amazon)

Post by jlakes85 »

Hi All,

I'm trying to understand possible objections to using this over something like BCC qwik cast for pattern and core box construction. This would be nice to use because of the convenience of Amazon e.t.c. Let me know. Thanks again!

Regards,

I'm at a loss to understand what you mean by " because of the convenience of Amazon e.t.c."
Would you be so kind as to further explain what you mean?

Thanks

Thanks, but what is meant by e.t.c.? That's what has me tripped up.
I suspect that one reason why the polyurethane material won't work to satisfaction is that it probably doesn't set up to be very rigid. If it's anything like the urethane I've worked with, it's more like rubber, although there's a wide range of hardness.

I think the kwik cast is d85 and this stuff is d75 when it sets up. Not sure how much of a difference that it

Harold_V: I think he means "etcetera", but stuck in some extra periods. Should have been etc., meaning other mail-order places.

jlakes85: I ran out of fingers and toes, so I had to use my calculator, but the difference between d85 and d75 is 10.

Sorry, it is too early in the day for me and I just could not help making such a... uh.. uh... ah... comment.

Chuckle!
Et cetera! Often not spelled correctly---with ect. a common mistake.

I'm familiar with the Durometer scale, but not familiar with the needs for making core boxes and patterns, so I don't have an opinion about the ten point difference between the two compounds. I would enjoy hearing more as that's a problem I most likely will face in the near future. I would think that one of the things to consider would be how easily the poured item would separate from the created mold, however. Again, without any experience, I have no opinion.
