Always build the tender first.
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

Thanks Harold, that means a lot.Harold_V wrote: ↑Fri May 12, 2023 3:26 pmChuckle!
Seems most folks have lost sight of the fact that parts CAN be made without a CNC, although I'm quick to admit that the use of one often makes a task much simpler.
I started my career as a machinist in 1957 in a research and development shop that was founded for the purpose of building the Sergeant Guided Missile. I remained at that facility for 7½ years and saw the missile go from the development stage through full production and to eventual phase-out. In all those years, the closest thing that was used in the shop that resembled any type of production ease was a two spindle Gorton tracer mill. All operations that were performed in house were on manual machines. Not so much as an NC machine was ever used.
You really can make parts manually, even complex parts. All it takes is a little dedication and effort. Luck with yours.

Re: Railroad Warehouse 2.8.2 Mikado Logger Build
I have seen countless locos without finished tenders. If you walk through the back storage area of the museum in York UK...there are 100's of beautiful finished locos without any tender at all.
If you don't have a functioning tender...are you going to test run your loco around the track with a Tupperware water tank on a 2x8?
The fellow who got me started in this hobby 50 years ago gave me two pieces of advice specifically about live steaming:
The first was that any running loco is ok while you build your dream. Gotta stay entertained.
And
Build the tender first...or at least finish them at the same time..
One thing that I have learned...you can test run an unfinished, unpainted loco...sheet metal and a cab can be put on later..
but the tender better be painted before you put water and coal in it -> or you have a real mess on your hands.
Or you can do a purinton...build the tender out of wood.

Bill, as I cannot disagree with your logic. After giving it some thought, I am going to build them both concurrently. At the very least the Tender will give me a diversion from the times I have an issue with the Locomotive. Thank you for bringing this into perspective. Now where to set up another table lol

Ody:
I am relieved to know you are adopting BS's wise advice to proceed building your locomotive tender.
'Also offered to me early on in my first steamer build, by several knowledgable people!
And it was sage advice...

Yeah, it's a good idea. My frame castings came in from Allen Models today along with my firebox door.

So, I ordered a Cleco Kit off Amazon to help in the assembly of my new Tender. I had to laugh as the bag States "Designed and Manufactured in USA".
However, Inside the bag says made in China and the Cleco Pliers says made in Taiwan! Makes me wonder where the Clecos's are made!

I have bags of them probably from the same company
Different printing on the bag, same tool.
They work just fine...but like you, I wonder where actually made.
Perhaps because the bag was filled with the tool and clamps in the USA ..

Perhaps just the bag was made in China!
Kit of Clecos looks good.
You will enjoy using them on your tender build. They make the project much easier to do.

I can see how these will make building the Tender so much easier. The Clecos themselves have very strong springs and I feel they will work just fine. I have an inquiry to the seller about their claim of made in the USA.
