Thread Locker shelf life

I have 6 bottles of Locktite and ThreeBond thread lockers that are over 20 years old and still using today. The manufactures state 1 to 2 years and replace however mine still work. Is this 1 to 2 years limitation just a sales pitch to sell more product? What are your thoughts?

I have used thread locker (removable) that is 5 years old with success

I have also used loctite for shaft / bearing retaining that was 5 years old that failed.

If I am doing something critical, I start fresh and keep the bottle in the warm section of the fridge.

Hmm! Interesting as I use new stuff for shaft and bearing locking as it is a high stress application. Not worth the gamble as it's not that expensive for a small tube.

How does 35 years sound ? Still works, but for critical stuff, I use newer material.
The comment though has me thinking I should run a test on torque stats using it and maybe get back here with numbers ?

Loctite is anaerobic so I suspect the scarcity of oxygen is a factor in polymerizing.
A manufacture has to state the life of a chemical conservatively.
Research was made on prescription drugs and found that most are chemically stable much longer than the expiration date.
So is food, taken with common sense. I would not gamble on sushi past the "best before" date.

I have a small bottle of LocTite that is more than 50 years old and it still works, although it does appear to harden at a slower rate. I rarely rely on this product, choosing, instead, to provide proper fits for the task at hand. It was obtained, originally, when I had to comply with certified procedures. I most likely wouldn't have it otherwise.

LocTite that I have is at least 20 years old. I have been replacing it because the bottles are getting sticky to the touch and very soft.

Reminds me of the Himalayan salt that is advertised as 250 million years old yet it has a expiry date within the decade.
