That’s not rail, but it makes a good substitute. The metal is used for spacing and holding metal roofs. The giveaway is the step in the base. As far as I know it’s common mild steel but it should work good for most home tracks. I don’t think that I would use it on a commercial or club track because of the soft steel. For used steel, even rail I usually figure twice scrap price.
