Re: Took a ride on the Southwest Chief
Thanks for explaining the track issue, John. I wasn't aware that a station platform can cause issues.
The folks on the train were kind and polite. Live and let live I say.

FWIW, I hope the old girl stays where she is. Maybe the museums can make a trade?

Re: Took a ride on the Southwest Chief
I had seven days in Flagstaff, and saw many friends, a billion stars at night, mountains, pine trees, deer, elk, and one skunk. An all day pass on the bus is only $2.50 around town. Great way to get around. Watched some trains along the way. Got plenty of rest and good times in. Before I knew it, it...

Re: Took a ride on the Southwest Chief
The train arrived about 20 minutes early. Many of the passengers were from a religion that frowns on planes from what I was told. Most men had Abe Lincoln like beards, and black hats. The women all wore dresses, and many had a small white hat on. Kinda felt like I stepped back into the 1800s. Shortl...

Took a ride on the Southwest Chief
I've thought about this for a long time. This past January 14th I rode Amtrak's Southwest Chief from Albuquerque, NM to Flagstaff, AZ. I flew Southwest Airlines to ABQ. From the airport, it's easy to get to the depot. I paid a $1.00 bus fare on the Route 50, and it dropped me off at the Alvarado Tra...

Re: Missed it by that much...
Hi Mark! Yeah, that's the million dollar question. The New Mexico commuter train runs up to Santa Fe. There's a wye further along at French that could handle the locomotive. With enough funding and legal contracts with BNSF, I bet the locomotive could be moved hot to the Grand Canyon Railway. They'v...

I was in Albuquerque, NM on January 15th. ATSF 2926 was steamed up the day before. Darn.

Re: 261 Gets Pickled
Thank you Mark, and everyone on the team. Keep up the good work! The 261 and train are always first class. I got to sneak a view of the locomotive before she steamed to St. Paul this past December. Awesome looking as always!

Re: Old Stuff
I'll join in. Here's a shot I won first place with. Back at a U of M Model Railroad meetup in the 2000s. My favorite steam locomotive in the whole world. I sure hope the pendulum swings back, and a new Amtrak leader is appointed who is much more supportive of our nations heritage. The 261, and other...
