I'm sure those were shot from the overlook at Mounds Park.
See if this link works.

Re: Christmas Train - Santa Train

Fitz, I was in the cab on the trip up the hill. I am also pretty sure Robert was the engineer.
That was a memorable trip for me as the tracks are about 600 feet from my house.

Re: Christmas Train - Santa Train

The closest track on the right side of 261 is Union Pacific. It is used to get across the river at Robert street, to the Western ave yard, and to cross over Bridge 15 to get to Shakopee and then some. Short Line Hill, starting about a mile behind our train(when parked at the North Pole), is on Canad...

Re: Christmas Train - Santa Train

After Santa rides the train back to the depot, he needs to get back to the North Pole.
The ride is facilitated by the Polaris Ranger, the use of which is provided by a local dealer.

Re: The 261 this month

I was the second to the last one out of the lot. Somewhere round 11:45. Only Swanee was behind me. As per the rule of the day, yet another freight got between the crew and their dinner. Right as we were leaving the arms came down for one coming off Wayzata heading for Midway. At least it wasn't supe...

Re: "Amtrak 156: One cool locomotive!"

I think we figured it would be removed right away on one of the heritage units.
That, and it was not an FO261 excursion.

Got a few miles in the cab.

Re: 261 Heading West Sat. Oct 12

Hi Fitz,
It's very likely I'll be feeding the Alemite gun for Mark on Saturday and Sunday.
It's pretty rare for either of us to miss a trip.

Ed,
There was a group of photographers that asked for the visor to be removed.
I believe a donation to the organization made that happen.

That caught my eye right away.
For those who don't know Jim, look for the red bandana.
Also watch for him to be back at work in his 'office' very soon.

Re: The 261 mars light thread

That photo was in one of the "Northern Lines" newsletters.
It would to take some doing to get it put on, and we kind of ran out of time to do it.
We do have it at the shop.

Re: Need some location help

We stayed on the CP all day. We did pull into the LaCrosse depot and stopped for a while. The passengers got off the train to have lunch while we serviced and watered. I can't really tell exactly where the pictures were taken, but the first one makes me think just East of Red Wing, nearing the top o...
