Re: 2926 Derailment On Eve of First Steam Up

This outfit is a class act. I sent them a contribution to assist in the rerailing of 2926. Today I received a hand written card and thank you from Mike Hartshorne, President of the NMSL&RHS. How many other organizations even recognize contributions? I sure wish I could be there when this beauty ...

Re: UP tracks

On the 844/4449 doubleheader from north of Portland to Everett, 844 ran on BNSF trackage, but there may have been rights for both BNSF and UP, as there were UP tracks available, too.

I am just now getting around to looking at the rest of the photos I shot. Here are a couple. The ex-McCloud 25 was also a participant in all of this fun.

Tom, in your Colorado adventures, did you run into Chip Sherman? He goes by coloradozephyr on TO.

Things are sure quiet on the board, so I will post another Polson Logging shot that I converted to black and white.

Polson Logging No. 2 now on the Oregon Coast

This weekend I got an opportunity to participate in another photo special, after a year of inactivity. Thanks to my daughter Laurie who flew to Oregon from California to drive my to Garibaldi. The occasion was the debut of Polson Logging 2-8-2 No. 2, transplanted from the Mid Continent museum in Wis...

Re: 261 Trips to Duluth Cancelled Acount of Amtrak

I'm afraid that's just the beginning of bad news cancellations. Hopefully later this month I may get to participate in some steam fun on a tourist operation. We shall see.

Re: March 23, 2002

Hey John, and on that trip is when we met each other. I remember what you had to go through to get to Portland and then Doyle put you to work in the concessions group, something I had followed up on for several years until I was unable to do it any longer. This aging process is no fun. I know how mu...

Re: The Blue Goose

Mark, number 3460. Santa Fe got 5 of the class from Baldwin, but 3460 was the only one streamlined. They had 84 inch drivers (fast) and weighed over 420,000 lb. Other than that I don't know anything about their use or history.

Re: Cab Ride Milw 261

I have a VHS version of Goodheart's "261, A New River Adventure," which features that trip, including cab shots of Rich and his fighting the wet, slippery rails. I'm sure the fireman really had his hands full.

Re: Cab Ride Milw 261

A product of the infamous Len Shaner. I see he did not spell Steve's last name correctly. The camera work looks too good to be his, as well. Posted in 2008, but I'll bet it was filmed during the winter 261 spent back in Steamtown.

Re: Florida, Stupid People and Trains that go Fast

"The gates may not provide enough warning"----they are not a warning, they are blocking idiots like this guy from proceeding onto the tracks where a train is obviously approaching, and at 79 MPH. I doubt we will ever see an end to this stupidity. He's a definite candidate for the Darwin aw...

Just out of curiosity, how was the throttle reduced on steam years ago with ATS (Automatic Train Stop) equipment?
