Re: 765 news

I received my copy of "Short Lines" from FWRHS today. Great photos and stories of the details involved in the new smokebox front, running boards, sanders. The photos show closeups of the items in question, but it's a real teaser, as you can tell that the engine is really back together again and just...

Re: Care and feeding of a steam locomotive overnight

Mark, I'm looking forward to the rest of this. Never forgot your "thoughts of a night hostler" thread a few years ago. I can't participate, because I never hostled (unless you want someone to photograph the activity). Can you explain "banking" a fire? I have seen the term used many times and am sure...

Re: 765 news

That's great if they have steamed her up. This was a MAJOR overhaul, I guess a better term would be "rebuild." The crew has rebuilt just about everything on the engine. She should come out of the shop "brand new," like the 844 did. Good job, you guys. :D

Tom, yes I am, and that's how we "met" only on internet. I guess I should get in touch with him again. Sorry to hear that his wife is having problems.

Re: UP-more on copyright infringement of logo

I ran into Nils at the Brooklyn roundhouse during the NRHS convention and he told me about this. It will be interesting to watch. Nils produces super railroad photo calendars and excellent books. While at the roundhouse he donated a bunch of copies of his work on the Daylight to the ORHF and Friends...

Re: Night Running

It is great to see the wonderful prose of Mark D back on this forum again. Don and Ed, among the three of you, you should write a book, seriously. I think that's what it must have been like for our fathers and grandfathers who worked the railroad. I would love to be able to read their minds from the...

Rick, go to the thread below where Mark gets back in contact with John McIvor. Click on the link to John's SVS site and it lists all known USA excursions. One close to you will be the 1225.

Re: Notable double and triple-headers

 Don C, seems to me when I ran into you in a vestibule on that trip last year you were sporting an ear to ear grin. Something about "stick time." BTW it looks like the the two UP steamers are going to double head this weekend on two trips.

Notable double and triple-headers

 Having just ridden behind the Pacific Northwest's 4-8-4's, SP&S 700 and SP 4449, I have to ask what your favorite double and triple header steam experiences were? Last year I had the pleasure of riding behind Milwaukee 261 and CP 2816 at the Grand Excursion. The year before that, again 7...

Re: Which restored steam locomotive has the most miles on?

 Having ridden behind all except the 3985, I don't care which one has the most miles. I enjoy all of them, including the 3985, and thank all of the volunteer help who keep them running for our benefit.
