Re: Soo Line 2719?

The LSRM is currently restoring the Duluth and Northeastern 2-8-0 #28. It might be done in time to pull excursions this year.

Re: Soo Line 2719?

Besides, somebody would have to pay to move it to Eau Claire too.

Re: Soo Line 2719?

It sounds like the 2719 might go back to Eau Claire for $1, if they want it back. The catch is that the city would have to pay for a proper shelter which could cost as much as $135,000.

Re: Too Many Abandoned Lines?

Superheated Steam Cars

I was surprised to learn that steam locomotives weren't the only form of transportation to use superheated steam. There were also steam cars that used superheated steam as I saw on the videos from Jay Leno's Garage. For example, Jay has two different models of a 1925 Doble steam car. They make 1,000...

Lost Twin Cities: Evolution of Rail Transportation

This video segment from 1994 is an excellent documentary of how rail transportation evolved in the Twin Cities. The rest of the show is worth watching too.

Re: Santa Fe 2926

How does a foam detector actually detect foam?
How does it alert the crew?
What corrective action does the crew take at that point?

Thank you.

Re: Dakota Rail-related blog post

There is also a small piece of a former Luce Line spur in Hutchinson that used to cross State Highway 7 to a cement plant. I'm sending a link of where its located and I'm including the same picture showing where the track is as I remember it a few years ago. https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Hutchinson...

Why does the rear driver wheel have a ridge around the spoke openings, whereas the other drivers don't?

Mark,
it's too bad I couldn't have gotten one of those steam engines he had, they would've been just the right size to run on the TC&W.
