What are the castings from exactly, and what about the two axle-like pieces next to them?

For those who want to ride on one of the original Twin Cities streetcars, there are two locations available: Lake Harriet and Excelsior.

Check out the following link for more information.

Re: Uptown Mpls Excavation (Photo)

That's a great catch Millhouse! Another great place to see existing streetcar tracks is in St. Paul at the entrance to the former Selby Avenue streetcar tunnel. It is located across the street and down the hill from the front of the St. Paul Cathedral. Here's a link of the same location when the str...

Re: for Mark D ... AFT in the Twin Cities

Mark, according to the caption of the picture in the following link, the FT did in fact head west on the BN toward Willmar. Quote: "During the American Freedom Train's visit to the state in 1975, the train was displayed in Minneapolis' Minnehaha Park on the Milwaukee Road. At the end of the dis...

Here's a link to a picture of the AFT at Minneapolis Junction. You can see part of the shop and the former roundhouse in the background.

Re: 7 Scenarios for the SW LRT with the TC&W and bike trail

I wonder what the cost of simply having commuter rail on the TC&W would compare to these plans? Has there been any studies on that?
Would there be enough ridership to justify it?

Re: Photo essay on a piece of former M&St.L main line

If you want a great way to see what happened to old ROW's, there is an excellent website called "Historic Aerials" which shows aerial views from as far back as 1947 in the Twin Cities. The feature that I recommend is under the "Compare" heading and then choosing "Slide"...

Re: Incredible Sight In Mendota Heights, MN

According to Google Maps, The nearest tracks in the area go to Midwest Coca Cola Bottling at the intersecting of 35E and 55. If you scroll to the northwest, following 55, and zoom in, you can clearly see the area that SOO2719 is referring to. I added a link for reference. http://maps.google.com/?ll=...

The Hiawatha logo appears another place on the engine. Check behind one of the access panels on the fireman's side.

St. Paul Union Depot Construction

Construction of the St. Paul Union Depot is well underway to make it a transit hub for Amtrak, light rail, and for any future commuter rail and high-speed rail. Live webcams of the construction: the first camera doesn't always work, but the second one is working fine http://groups.yahoo.com/group/St...
