How Much Sound Travels - If You Want it to

I live approximately five miles north of the BNSF line that goes west to somewhere, and I live approximately the same amount of miles south from the Canadian Pacific Railway. If there is little or no wind, I can hear not only their whistles, (horns) but the engines themselves. I can also hear approx...

Re: Train Wreck???

WOW! Talk about train wrecks!! Amtrak is out of business between PA and NY until the mess is cleared. The mess looks like it's going to take a long time. Maybe now the track might be cleared though because it's been long enough that they could have cleared the track and inspected it. I can think of ...

Re: Railway proposes shipping 500 million gallons of Minnesota water a year to the Southwest

I've read all about the water issues in the 1800's and forward, but I guess, even though I don't like the idea at all of shipping our water down to a place where, maybe the people who live there should just move to where there is water, when we too could wind up in a drought and need that water for ...

Train Wreck???

Last night when I came into the house my wife informed me that on the national news there was a big train wreck. I figured it would be noted on at least one of the TV channels from the Twin Cities, but nothing was mentioned. This morning I checked on the web and found nothing. Was this 'train wreck'...

Re: Railway proposes shipping 500 million gallons of Minnesota water a year to the Southwest

Taking water from the aquifer's will eventually reduce the level and eventually we Minnesotans would be in the same boat as those in the southwest. How would we get clean and clear water to fill the 261's tenders? (That assuming we find a way to operate somewhere) Cities all along rivers routinely t...

Re: Railway proposes shipping 500 million gallons of Minnesota water a year to the Southwest

That's so way like governments!!! Don't they realize that all the main rivers in Minnesota, and also most other states, run their water to other parts of the country already, courtesy of gravity and mother nature? Does the Mississippi River stop at the MN border? The Red River? And the rivers get th...

Wisconsin Southern; runs between Hartford, WI and Milwaukee, WI. That's everything I know today. Mind is now blank again until another lightning bolt hits me.

Re: Soo Line 1003

That's great. Where did they find tracks to operate on? I haven't seen that engine for so long that not only do I not remember the last time I saw it, but where I saw it. Wonderful that it got out though.

Re: Railway proposes shipping 500 million gallons of Minnesota water a year to the Southwest

I can't read the article, the Red Star has blocked it until I give away my email address. I'm not going to do that and wind up having to delete eleventeen or more stupid email posts. So, my thoughts might not be true to what the idea in the article are. Why take it from the aquifer when it can be so...

Hello! Is anybody in there?

To take a phrase from Pink Floyd... if you don't have something railroad to discuss, why not post something you think others would like to know about. Since it is SO SSLLLLOOOOOOWWWW here lets put something interesting no matter. There is, also, the Round House which is intended for off topic featur...

Re: Soo Line 2719 sold back to Duluth museum

In my mind that museum has a great collection of historic equipment, but don't take very good care of the operating equipment. Maybe they've changed, but my observations, although dated now - things might have changed - they have now qualms about robbing parts from a perfectly good running engine fo...

What's the condition of the engine? Will it be used on the north shore line? I hope they don't just park it outside and use it for parts.

Well, that's great. Now can someone come up with a photograph showing it in action?

Looking for distributed steam engines on long trains

Exactly what the title says. I'm wondering if anyone has resources where by a good photograph of a very long train with distributed power. It has to be something that can be posted here.
Thanks for anything that works
