Re: Terms

At least the one who started the thread took it in good humor. After that, he got the answers he wanted.

I was reading on another railroad based board where someone asked what was done with the "steam generator" when rebuilding a steam locomotive. He took a lot of crap from those high and mighty who know all. They turned it into a steam generator as in generating steam and went on to tell how...

Re: 4014 to Duluth

Kevin, you really put that together well. Thanks so much for sharing a few days of your live for the rest of us who couldn't be there.
And that goes for the others who have shared all things 4014 during the time it was in our area. I never got to see it, so it matters.

Re: So Long Shoreham (MN) Roundhouse

I'm just happy to learn that it hasn't been taken over by the city for development. If there is active rail that would be much less likelihood that it would turn into more low rent housing. I prefer rail stays active for the simple reason that once it's gone, it can't come back when needed. Mark D.

Re: So Long Shoreham (MN) Roundhouse

Did you get photo's?
I've heard of the Shoreham Shops, never been there, no need to go there.
who owns the property? Will it still be railroad property, as in is there ROW that cuts through there?

Re: Bessmer and Lake Erie 643 is Finally Safe

Trains has already killed the link to it. Or maybe I have to sign up to read? I get the magazine, that's enough. If the B&LE 643 is safe, that's good enough for me.

Re: The Two Legendary Transcons Meet

I don't know all the names of various points on the railroad and I was taking a guess. All I know that is fact is that it tore up the track that had just been beefed up just for 4014 and 4014 wasn't have any of it and made it's own curve, thus requiring more repair work after it went through. Re: Milwaukee Road 261

It's been done before. 261 train would be slightly west of Nordic Ware near a water tower. The difference is parking. not sure if Nordic Ware will allow us to park cars in their lots, or if we will need to have passengers park their cars at the 261 shop and bus them to St. Louis Park. In any case, i...

Re: The Two Legendary Transcons Meet

I wonder how many people in Duluth saw how that beast took care of the curve on (I think it was) Grassy Point where the BNSF had beefed up the track on the curve so the Big Boy could negotiate it. The curvature was more than Big Boy liked, so regardless of the work the track crew did, Big Boy shoved...

Re: Milwaukee Road 261

Very soon that steam engine will be in moth balls if nobody finds a way to make steam engines compatible with PTC. It will be a sad day when steam ends because of unbending rules. The trips it is going to run this fall can't even start at the shop as before because the BNSF, as good as they have bee...

That crowd is huge! It seems to draw a crowd wherever it stops. It seems to me that they get a fair crowd even where there might not have been advertising in advance.

Thanks! I couldn't figure that one out and I've been in the area many times, starting long ago because lots of relatives in Duluth and then when I wound up being part of the 261 crew and that has been quite a few times over the years.

Re: Big Boy IS going to Duluth this July

I doubt anyone rolled the 261 out of the shop to say hi to the 4014. The U.P. crew did go right past the 261 shop, but in any case there are so many coaches in the yard that the 261 can't get past that it would be doubtful that the Union Pacific crew would be able to see the 261. If they wanted to, ...
