Re; My former thread on not seeing any SD40-2's around.
Today I saw my first one since that thread started. I heard a whistle of an older sound than the newer loco's have, and went to the door. I could hear a EMD working hard, and thought it would be a bunch of Geeps.
Instead, I saw a SD40-2 in the lead with one Geep behind. Both sounded like they were doing all they could. I suspect accelerating a train after (guessing) having picked up some ethanol tanks in Atwater, where there's an ethanol plant. I lost count around 60 or so cars when the phone went off, but it kept going and going, so I'd estimate at least 80 maybe close to 100 loads.
The Geep wasin BN green, the SD was in BNSF Orange paint.
For decades, the favorite of most engineers, now being relegated to the weeds more and more because of the newer big power. Yet, still the favorite of those who ran them back in the day.
