Any speculation a new operator will work with UP on making a similar run along the same route?

No speculation has come out so far, Millhouse, but a Denver news station asked Union Pacific for comment. Their reply is informative regarding their steam plans for 2019:

"The Post said UP’s use of its historic rail cars in 2019 and beyond played a contributing factor in the CFD Train run’s demise."

Got any specifics on this? Don't know why just UP's railcars alone would be a problem?

I am afraid I have no specifics, but I wager the Golden Spike 150th has a lot to do with Union Pacific's passenger car fleet being needed for other trips, especially with Big Boy 4014 making her debut this year in honor of the Golden Spike turning 150.

That is way too bad.
Most especially because from what I read of the woman who accidentally caused it all would definitely not have wanted it to end on her account. This comes from her family, who knew her best.
